Viking alum Jeff Kunkel prepares to take a rip for the Lakeland Flying Tigers, a Class A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers. Kunkel was an all-american catcher at Michigan.

Alumni news

   Vance Cooksey completed his basketball career at Marian Catholic as one of the all-time leading scorers, then moved onto a scholarship at Youngstown State University and Pikeville College (Kent.), where he won an NAIA National championship. Cooksey recently played for the Texas Legends of the NBA's Developmental League, averaging more than 25 minutes per game.
   Maurice Acker, a member of the 2000 International Championship squad, was a starting guard for the nationally ranked Marquette men's basketball team, leading them to the NCAA tourney in 2009-10. Acker currently plays in Europe.
   Eric Armstrong was been the varsity assistant basketball coach at Thornton High School for several years, as well as a coach for Meanstreets AAU.
   Chris Austin, who also played baseball at Marian Catholic, helped lead the Spartan varsity basketball team to two IHSA Elite Eights, two McDipper championship and an all-time best 57-7 two-year record.
   Christian Beal, helped lead the Marian Catholic baseball team to the IHSA state championship game and played baseball in college at Bates University.
   Craig Bowen (1978) co-produced a golf documentary, "Uneven Lies: The heroic story of Afro-Americans in Golf," which appeared on Feb. 12 on the Golf Channel. He's also served as golf coach at Governors State University.
    Micah Bradford earned All-Area honors playing varsity basketball at Bradley-Bourbonnais and played collegiately at a number of schools.
    Michael Carr, after a varsity football and basketball career at Thornwood HS, studied Fire Science at Prairie State College.
    Bernie Coderre played on the varsity basketball squad at Homewood-Flossmoor.
    Ki-Jana Crawford, a Viking career leader in several categories, was a key contributor on the varsity basketball and football teams at Marian Catholic. He helped lead the 2013 and 2014 Spartan basketball squad to a 57-7 record and two Elite Eight berths.
   Bob Curran, who led the Thornwood men's basketball team to a pair of IHSA Class state trophies in five seasons, has also served as head coach at Lincoln-Way North and Lincoln-Way Central.
   Brian Dompeling graduated in 2011 from Eisenhower High School, where he played varsity baseball.
   Brian Essig, a former Viking coach, turned in a team-best two-day total of 151 at the IHSA state golf tournament as a senior to lead his Homewood-Flossmoor team to an 8th place state finish and earn team MVP honors. Along with Viking alums David Posley (University of Cal-Santa Barbara), Neil Trainor (Milwaukee School of Engineering) and Ronnell Robinzine, Brian also played on the H-F IHSA Class AA state basketball runner up.
   An honor roll student at Homewood-Flossmoor HS, David Fatoki played varsity basketball and baseball. He played in college at Washington University (St. Louis) and currently works for the Golden State Warriors.
   Alanna Ferry completed a successful basketball career at Marian Catholic and Benedictine University.
   Anthony Frezza played college basketball at Walter State following a basketball and golf career at Mount Carmel (Class of 2010).
   Brandon Hurt earned a varsity starting spot on the basketball team at Marian Catholic as a freshman.
   Dontrell Jackson completed a successful four-year career at quarterback for Ohio University. He moved onto a career in the Arena Football League and played for the Chicago Slaughter. He has served as football head coach and basketball assistant at his alma mater, Thornton HS.
   Brian Johnson led Marian Catholic to its first sectional win in history over Homewood-Flossmoor as a senior guard in 2009 and played at University of Indianapolis.
   Kaleb Johnson played varsity volleyball at Homewood-Flossmoor and hopes to become an FBI agent. Brother Kyle Johnson plans to be an athletic trainer and competed in varsity gymnastics at H-F.
   Skye Johnson played a key role in leading the Marian Catholic women's basketball team to two straight IHSA Elite Eights and earned a basketball scholarship at Bradley University.
   Mike Jones (Valparaiso, Andrew) is an outside sales rep and plays in a rock band across the country. He played varsity baseball, basketball and golf at Andrew.
   Corey Jumper played on the basketball team and competed in a match competition at Vanderpoel Grade School. He was a varsity basketball player at Brooks High School in Chicago.
   Dan Kelly teaches in the University of Notre Dame Law School, while brother Tom Kelly teaches philosophy at Princeton.
   Ethan Kelly, played on varsity teams for golf, basketball and baseball at Marian Catholic, as well with the Marquette University club baseball squad.
   Matt Kiley was on the honor roll and winner of the Student-Athlete Scholar Award at Lincoln-Way East High School, where he played basketball.
   Jordan Koyn was a member of the Mount Carmel varsity basketball team and also played at Homewood-Flossmoor HS in football, basketball and baseball.
   Heather Kunkel was named first team all-Big 12, all-Big 12 Academic and All-Tournament in softball her senior year at University of Missouri, where she ranks second all-time in homers and doubles. She earned her degree in Secondary Education in 2006 and currently is the head softball coach at Lincoln-Way West.
   Jeff Kunkel, majored in Sports Management and Communication at the University of Michigan, earned the Jim Campbell Award for Leadership and Dedication as a catcher for the Wolverine baseball team. Jeff earned all-american honors from Louisville Slugger and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. He also served as a bullpen catcher for the Detroit Tigers. He was been named top defensive catcher in the Tiger organization twice by Baseball America.
   Cameron Lee began his college career at Iowa State University, then moved on to play at University of Mary in Bismarck, N.D.
   Casey Lilek played on the baseball team at Marian Catholic High School.
   Mark Maday serves as a general manager at Cardinal Fitness in Tinley Park.
   Ted McEldowny works as a real estate agent and on the Police Department in Boulder, Colo.
   Donovan McNabb led the Philadelphia Eagles to Super Bowl XXXIX against the New England Patriots and most recently played for the Minnesota Vikings.
   Nick Perry earned a varsity spot as a sophomore on the H-F basketball squad.
   David Posley, who led John Logan Community College to a top 10 national ranking, completed his college basketball career at California Santa-Barbara.
   Andres Rodriguez played college baseball at Bradley University.
   Chris Rodriguez completed a successful baseball career at Miami (OH) University.
   Dasaan Sanford earned all-conference honors in basketball for Waubonsee Community College, where he graduated in 2003.
   Jamael Sanford is a licensed real estate appraiser and mortgage counselor. He's a graduate of Rich South and Augustana (2000), where he lettered in football for four seasons.
   David Schwab worked as a reporter at the Southtown/Star.
   Michael Simmons served as an assistant varsity basketball coach at Rich Central HS.
   Jared Swoope was an honor roll student at H-F.
   Sean Taylor helped lead the Marian Catholic sophomore basketball team to a 20-win season and currently serves as an assistant basketball coach at the University of Illinois-Edwardsville.
   Nick Trzesniak hit .299 with 16 RBI in 2007 with the Class AA Erie Seawolves in the Detroit Tigers organization and gained a spring training invite.
   Mark Zelenika played high school basketball at Lincoln-Way East.
