Homewood won the 2000 International Championship in Orlando, Fla. with a 44-38 title-game victory over the Chicago Washington Jaguars.

2006 record: 17-8

Homewood to open 2007 tryouts on Jan. 3

   Homewood Area Small Fry Basketball will kick off tryouts for the 2007 on Wednesday, Jan. 3 at the Homewood Village Hall Auditorium, 2020 Chestnut Road, in Homewood from 6 to 8 p.m.
   Candidates must be no older than 12 as of Sept. 1, 2006 and may not be taller than 5-foot-1. Homewood will offer both a varsity and junior varsity team, with the varsity squad hoping to qualify for the 39th annual International Tournament in Orlando, Fla. during the Easter break.
   Tryouts will continue through much of January on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Saturdays from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Village Hall. More information may be obtained by calling Craig Andrichik at 815-478-4437, Walt Shipman at 312-608-3520 or Kevin Kelly at 312-501-4762.

The Vikings welcome back longtime supporter Jim Egofske to good health at the annual Homewood Small Fry Golf Outing on Aug. 26 at Balmoral Woods Country Club.

Vikings (17-8) capture consolation title at International

   Homewood posted a 4-1 record at Disney's Wide World of Sports to capture the consolational championship of the 38th annual International Tournament on April 20.
   Homewood 48, Trevian 45- The Vikings (17-8) overcame a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit and David Fatoki buried a long three-pointer to give Homewood the consy title. Fatoki finished with 17 points, Kyle Holmes added 15 and Lamel Collins six. Holmes also had four steals and Shawn Stringfellow ripped down four rebounds.
   Homewood 42, Kenosha 14- Kenosha was limited to 21 shots and Homewood forced 29 turnovers, while Fatoki led the scoring with 19 points. Tommy Pollack chipped in four steals and Michael Carr grabbed four rebounds.
   Homewood 48, Manati, PR 38- Fatoki tallied 11 points in a balanced attack, while Holmes notched nine points, Brian Dompeling seven and Stringfellow and Pollack six each.
   Rainbow Jaguars 50, Homewood 32- The Vikings shot just 12-for-32 from the field in their lone Orlando loss. Fatoki scored eight points and Holmes seven to lead the way, while Collins dished out three assists.
   Homewood 43, St. Rocco 35- Fatoki scored 14 as the Vikings earned their way into International play with the win in the first Ozzie Mazzetta Challenge Round. Holmes clicked for nine points and three assists, Pollack dealt out three assists and Brent Buchanan pulled down seven rebounds.
    HOMEWOOD MOURNS LOSS OF LARRY HANSON- Longtime supporter and former Viking staffer Larry Hanson lost his battle with cancer recently and Homewood Small Fry sends its well wishes and prayers to Larry's family.
   Larry helped Homewood Small Fry in a number of capacities, purchased a set of uniforms for Homewood Small Fry and had heavy involvement with the 1985 International champions. Larry continued his support from a distance and he will be missed by the Homewood Small Fry family and friends..
